cebu permaculture initiatives is a philippine NGO actively promoting permaculture as a way towards self sufficiency in food & energy, environmental rehabilitation & sustainability. using the permaculture principles and ideas we are learning, we are currently developing:

1) a 1200 sqm urban permaculture garden, located just in front of the Kamagayan Barangay hall, aptly named: KGZ, initials of Kamagayan Green Zone. It is just across the street from the Sunstar building along P. del Rosario St., in Cebu City. you could check out this link: http://kamagayangreenzone.multiply.com/

2) a 4 ha rural permaculture farm in bacsije, carcar, about 45 km south of cebu city. being located just by the sea, the site includes three distinct eco-systems: lowland, swamp, and coastal. it is also the start of a long stretch of mangrove forest that extends beyond Sibonga and Argao in south east, Cebu. we have named our development site: the KPAF, for Katunggan Permaculture Art Farm. Katunggan is the general word for mangroves in the local dialect.

3) in progress, too, is the eco-renovation of Elicon House and Cafe. Located across the University of San Carlos along P. del Rosario St., we have retrofitted the 35 year old structure with: natural lighting, assisted ventilation, recycled wood, lots of plants, an indoor waterfalls, mosaics. we think it can be called an eco-cafe or a permaculture cafe.

our AIM is to showcase practical working solutions that will enable us to live in harmony with nature and the environment, this includes: grey water recycling, green roofs/walls, composting toilets, rainwater harvesting, organic kitchen gardens, pocket forests, vermi or worm culture, composting, house design appropriate for the tropics, alternative transpo, etc.

our GOAL is to cultivate hope, contribute to the restoration of valuable forests & soil fertility, help develop a local economy, wean ourselves from the direct /indirect use of fossil fuels to the use of renewable small scale energies systems.
